The Virtue of Fasting…

Our topic from our last post made me think of this certain pillar in Islam.

Now…..I can’t say this is a diet tip. Firstly, because there’s no reward for fasting if you’re just doing it to lose weight….but I might mention that it’s a Sunnah, like many others, that’s great for your health as well.

I’ve tried many a time to make the fasting of Mondays and Thursdays a habit….this helped….

Find one or two Ahadith which state the virtue of fasting on these days (or just use mine), print them out, and put the paper up in a place you visit frequently or perhaps wake up to in the morning. If not that, set it as your default message when your phone turns on or the background on your desktop.

Desperate, I know…but totally worth it if it’s going to help you incorporate such a Sunnah in the all the weeks to come in the rest of your life. 🙂

Here are some Ahadith….

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,

“Deeds of people are presented (to Allah) on Mondays and Thursdays. So I like that my actions be presented while I am fasting.” [At-Tirmidhi- #1256].

`Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her)u reported:

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to observe fast on Mondays and Thursdays. [At-Tirmidhi #1257].

Commentary: The word used in the Hadith  is “Yataharra“, which means to seek and search, that is, he (PBUH) used to make special arrangements for it.

May Allah help us all in our quest to earn Jenna.
